Thi Uyen Ly Dang

Senior Scientist for Satellite IoT at Fraunhofer IIS
The GAIA project offers the opportunity to better understand our environment in order to protect the ecosystem and the planet in which we live. The work within an interdisciplinary consortium for this project is challenging, but has a certain charm though. Different worlds with different understanding collide. As senior scientist for satellite communications I try to translate the biologists needs into technical requirements for the communication system – a task, which I enjoy and drives my personal motivation. Biologists meets engineers for Life!

Uyen Ly is senior scientist for satellite IoT at Fraunhofer IIS with a special interest in innovation and applied research. As member of the SatCom team of the GAIA project she coordinates the design of a concept for satellite communications, which enables the exchange of data over LEO satellites between animal and human.

Background

She graduated as Electrical Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) with focus on communication systems from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) in 2007. After graduation she worked at the Institute for Digital Communications (IDC), at the FAU towards her Dr.-Ing. degree in Communication Systems. Her work focuses on the design of algorithm design on Physical Layer for precoding and receive filtering for SC-FDMA transmission in mobile communications

Present job and responsibilities:

Ms. Uyen Ly Dang joined the System Design group of the Department Satellite and High Frequency Systems at Fraunhofer IIS in February 2018. In her position as Senior Scientist she holds the responsibility for R&D activities for satellite-based IoT Systems, protocols and waveforms. Additionally, she supports the 5G/6G NTN activities in her department.
